Mara Arts

Mara Arts is a PhD candidate in the department of Film, Media and Cultural Studies at Birkbeck. Her research is situated both in film studies and cultural history, and looks at the representation of the London night in film and press, between 1919 and 1939. Previously she was awarded an MA in Film Studies with Distinction from UCL, with a thesis entitled ‘No Pleasure Without Vice: The London Nightclub Chronotope in Film 1927-1940.’ Mara received a BA in Film & Television Studies from Brunel University. Her research has been published in the edited collection London on Film (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017).
